In August 2007, fire swept through the corridors of the Penhallow Hotel in Newquay. Over 100 fire-fighters were involved in the blaze where 3 guests tragically lost their lives. The hotel owners admitted charges of failing to meet safety standards and were fined £80,000 with £62,000 costs.
